UT is the flagship symposium of the IEEE OES and the IEEE OES Japan Chapter, dedicated to showcasing emerging underwater technologies and their applications. The symposium aims to: 1)promote collaboration among underwater researchers worldwide, with a particular emphasis on researchers from Asian countries; 2)provide opportunities and encouragement for young researchers from both academia and industry. The inaugural UT symposium was held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1998. Since then, UT has grown into a globally recognized symposium that effectively bridges academia and industry. While UT consistently attracts participants from around the world, its primary focus remains on the Asian research community. Over the years, the symposium has been hosted not only in Japan but also in Asian Countries. After UT25 Taipei, UT27 will return to Tokyo in February – March 2027, with strong support from the University of Tokyo.

With technical sponsorship from IEEE, this event anticipates that its proceedings will be indexed in leading databases such as Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), Ei Compendex, DBLP, and Google Scholar.
